Elotes’ Bats Explode for Third Straight Win
Clinton, IA - The Clinton Elotes (3-3) scored nine runs in consecutive innings to defeat the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (3-3) 9-4 for the team's third straight win at NelsonCorp Field May 31.
The Elotes are currently tied for the top spot in the Northwest Division after starting 0-3.
The attendance for the game was 3,491.
Dylan Bergman (Black Hawk College) set the offense up with five shutout innings in his first start of the season. He earned the win while striking up four and allowing one hit.
Gavin Awbrey (SCC) paced the offense with two extra base hits, runs and four RBI
The Elotes cashed in with five runs in the third and four runs in the fourth.
The third innings began with three straight Elotes reaching: Sutton Lewis (UMSL) walked, Ben Toft (Iowa) laid down a bunt single, and Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa) also walked.
Brody Shinkle (Creighton) singled to score two and get the team on the board. He leads the team with 7 RBI.
Awbrey drove a triple on the next pitch to score two more. It was his fifth hit in the last three games.
Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State University) followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
After a 1-2-3 from Bergman, the Elotes began the bottom of the fourth with a hit by pitch and walk.
Jaylen Ziegler (Iowa) picked up an RBI single to score Archer Ogbourne (Jacksonville).
Shinkle worked a walk to set up Awbrey with runners on the corner. On the first pitch, Awbrey smoked an RBI double to pick up two more RBI.
Sobiezczyk registered up his second RBI of the game to make it 9-0.
After scoring seven runs in the first three games of the season, Clinton has tallied 28 runs in the last three.
Quincy scored all four of its runs in the top of the sixth. Three Elote relievers combined for four shutout frames.
Kirill Landry (Upper Iowa) tossed two shutout, letting up one hit.
Miller Tavaglione (Allen County CC) and Jackson Wohlers (Saint Leo) each threw a shutout inning.
Due to a Normal Cornbelters (3-3) win over the Burlington Bees (2-4), Clinton finds itself in a three-way tie for the top spot in the division. Illinois Valley can also join the tie with a win over the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (1-4) tonight.
Both teams have the day of tomorrow. Quincy travels to Normal on June 2 for a 6:30 p.m. game at the Corn Crib.
Clinton heads to Burlington for a 12:00 p.m. game at Community Field June 2.
