Clinton Drops Nailbiter at Burlington
Burlington, IA - The Clinton LumberKings (3-4) surrendered a pair of big innings to the Burlington Bees (3-4) in a 8-7 loss June 2 at Community Field,
Jaqson Tejada (Northern Illinois) shined on the mound in his second start of the year. He tossed four scoreless innings, getting his first six outs all via the strikeout.
He stranded two in the first and got out of bases-loaded, nobody out in the fourth. His final strikeout total was nine.
The LumberKings offense scored the first six runs of the game, starting in the third inning. The rally began on walks from Archer Ogbourne (Jacksonville) and Cole Lanclos (Baylor).
Jackson Misher (Black Hawk) bunted and an error allowed one to score.
Brody Shinkle (Creighton) drove a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0, and another fielding error on a Gavin Awbrey (SCC) popup scored Mishler.
After Tejada stranded three in the fourth, the LumberKings put together a six-hit, three-run rally in the top of the fifth.
The inning began with four straight singles from Lanclos, Mishler, Ben Toft (Iowa) and an RBI-knock from Shinkle. It was his team-leading 9th RBI of the year.
Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western State) and Chase McEwan (Black Hawk) each drove another in with an RBI single.
Burlington scored five in the sixth and three in the seventh to take an 8-6 lead.
Mishler hit a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the ninth to pull the LumberKings within one, but they came up short.
Mishler paced the offense with a 3-3 game with three runs and an RBI.
Andrew Theiss (DMACC) put together a shutout 1.2 innings out of the bullpen.
Connor Diiulio (SCC) registered the loss, with Quentin Holmes getting the win and Jake Weissenberger picking up the save,
