Clinton Lumber Kings

Clinton, IA - Chance Key (Ohio State) threw six scoreless innings in his first home start of the season, leading the Clinton Giants (29-16,15-6) to a 11-1 win over the Burlington Bees (28-22, 17-8) July 24 at NelsonCorp Field.

The game ended during the eighth inning due to the 10-run rule. The victory sends Clinton back to the top spot in the Northwest Division in the second half of the season with seven games left to play. 

Key earned his third victory of the season. He struck out four and gave up six hits. Burlington had back to back singles in the first with one out before Key stranded two. 

He left six on the bases through the whole outing. 

The Giant offense scored seven runs over the first three innings, including four in the first. They worked eight walks, were hit by three pitches and took advantage of five Burlington errors.

Kale Jensen (Missouri Western State) and Bryce Pauly (Indiana) led the offense. Jensen reached in all five plate appearances, finishing with three hits, two runs and an RBI. 

Pauly had a triple and double with a pair of runs and RBI. He had six hits and seven RBI over his first three games of the season.

Every Clinton starter reached and five had multiple hits. The team totaled 14 hits. 

Cole Lanclos (Baylor) led off the bottom of the first inning with a bunt single on the first pitch. 

Pauly followed with an RBI triple to get the Giants on the board. 

Caden Sammler (Missouri State) and Jensen had RBI singles in the inning. Grayson Kirsch (DMACC) worked an RBI walk in his season-debut. 

In the bottom of the third, the Giants scored all three-runs with two outs. Jensen drove a double to begin the rally.

Tanner Short (Houston Christian) scorched a single to score him. Lanclos had an RBI single and Pauly reached on an error to score another. 

Sammler picked up his second RBI single in the fifth inning to make it 8-0. 

In the sixth, an outfield error allowed JT Augustynia (Kaskaskia) to reach. In the next at bat, Short got to first on another error which scored a run. 

Burlington scored their lone run in the seventh inning. The Giants put it away with two in the eighth. 

Grayson Kirch was hit by a pitch to start the game. Pauly followed with an RBI double off the right field wall. 

Isaac Sobieszczyk (Missouri Western) ended the game on an RBI single with two strikes to enact the run-rule.

The two teams are separated by .34 percentage points. Burlington has six games left and Clinton has seven. 

The Bees return home for a five-game homestand, starting with the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (19-29, 8-15). 

The Giants continues its seven-game homestand, taking on the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (13-37,5-20). First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
